The Rural Municipality of Kinkora ('Kinkora') has grown significantly in recent years. Between 2016 to 2021, Kinkora’s population increased by approximately 15% with 52 new residents added to the community. Since 2020, Kinkora has also experienced an increase in demand for housing, community services and facilities. As a result of these growth pressures and provincial legislative requirements, Kinkora is undergoing a review and update to its Official Plan and Development Bylaw.

What is an Official Plan and Development Bylaw?

An Official Plan is a document which sets a long-term vision for how future growth and development will occur in Kinkora. It includes policies and maps to help guide Kinkora Council, staff, property owners and members of the development community to implement this vision.

A Development Bylaw is a document that aids in the implementation of the Official Plan vision by providing detailed guidance on specific requirements that must be met prior to Kinkora approving proposed land use changes and/or new development in the community.

Both the Official Plan and Development Bylaw impact what type of development can go where, what lands should be protected, and where municipal facilities and services (e.g.: central water supply, parkland, etc.) are needed. These documents can also be used to address community needs ranging from access to commercial services and diverse house types. The Official Plan and Development Bylaw impact the future of Kinkora, as well as residents’ day-to-day life, which is why we want to hear from you!
